Fish Tacos Recipe with Fresh Slaw

Ingredients

For the Tacos:

  • Walleye fillets
  • Hi Mountain Seasonings Bayou Bass Seasoning
  • Butter
  • Flour tortillas (I prefer uncooked ones that you cook fresh when ready to eat)
  • Feta or Cotija cheese

For the Slaw:

  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced and cut into 1-2” pieces
  • ½ bunch of cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, diced
  • ½ bag of coleslaw mix (or ½ head of cabbage, shredded)
  • 2 Tbsp avocado oil
  • 2 Tbsp lemon or lime juice
  • Salt to taste

Tools Needed:

  • Cutting Board
  • Chef Knife
  • Cast Iron Skillet
  • Griddle
  • Mixing Bowl

Instructions:

Prepare Walleye

  1. After filleting the walleye, cut it into 1-2” chunks.
  2. Season generously with Hi Mounta Seasonings Bayou Bass Seasoning.

Pan-Sear the Fish:

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, ensuring the pan is fully coated.
  2. Pan-sear walleye pieces for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Flip and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until fully cooked.
  4. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cook Tortillas

  • If using uncooked tortillas, place them on a griddle and cook according to the package instructions.
  • If using pre-cooked tortillas, warm them on a griddle, in the microwave, or in the oven.

Prepare Slaw:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all slaw ingredients.
  2. Stir well until evenly mixed.

Assemble Tacos:

  1. Place 2-3 pieces of cooked fish on each tortilla.
  2. Top with fresh slaw and a sprinkle of feta or Cotija cheese.
  3. Serve immediately and enjoy!
